Introducing - Sightgeist!
A podcast about old movies hosted by two dummies who've never worked in the industry.
We like movies. You do, too. We especially like talking about old movies and discussing if, how, and why they hold up. So, why subscribe to the Sightgeist podcast and newsletter?
1. You’re a film nerd, and you like hearing from other film nerds, and you want those film nerds to hear you.
It can be a real bummer to have a lot of thoughts and opinions on things and have nowhere to talk about them. While Joe and Jimmy will put out episodes of them actually talking about movies, they want Sightgeist to be part of a larger conversation around movies and the legacy they hold years after they’re released. And boy, Joe and Jimmy are definitely film nerds.
2. You think the Oscars are hot dog water.
Okay, that’s probably a slight exaggeration, but the Academy (and most awards shows) get it wrong all the time. Remember How Green Was My Valley? Neither do we, but we do remember Citizen Kane, Suspicion, and The Maltese Falcon, three of the other 1941 Best Picture nominees.
This isn’t exactly a podcast about reevaluating the Oscars—we won’t make picks about what we thought were actually the best movies of a given year, because we don’t really think that’s a useful way of thinking about movies.
3. You watch a lot of old movies, and wish more podcasts talked about them.
Listen, new movies: very good. We try to go to the movies as much as we can. But, there’s something about revisiting the golden (or not-so-golden) oldies and comparing how movies used to be with how they are now. Sightgeist is a show all about exactly that—the overhyped and underrated movies of yesteryear.
